Question 02 Show briefly how 1 ppm by weight is related to 1
Question 02 Show briefly how 1 ppm (by weight) is related to 1 mg/L (or 1 g/m) in dilute solutions (concentrations of pollutants are very small).
Solution
PPM is a term used in chemistry to denote a very, very low concentration of a solution
By definition, a Liter of water weighs 1 kg (1 kilogram or 1000 grams).
An 1 mg (1 milligram or 1/1000 of a gram)
Therefore 1 mg = 1/1,000,000 of a kg.
So, based on above data: 1 mg/L = 1 mg/kg = 1 mg/million mg = ppm.
mg/L =ppm
