Two professors sit on a 130 N beam while pontificating Help

Two professors sit on a 130 N beam while pontificating. Help them determine the support reactions.

Drawing not to scale.

What is the vertical component of the reaction at A?
(include units with answer)

What is the vertical reaction at B?
(include units with answer)

Solution

Let us first examine what is the equilibrum position, by observing the torque at B

Torque By prof 1 = 2.8 x 900 N = 2520 Nm

Torque by prof 1 = 2.4 x 760 N =  1824 Nm

there fore the rod stays put and stable parallel to surface

rod\'s center of mass is 4.2 cm from A and 1 cm from B

Normal Force by rod on A = 130 ( 1 / 4.2 )

Normal Force by rod on B = 130 ( 3.2/4.2)

Normal force by prof 1 on A = 900 ( 6-3.2)/6

Normal force on Prof 1 on B = 900( 3.2)/6

Normal force by prof 1 on A = 760( 2.4)/6

Normal force on Prof 1 on = 760 ( 6-2.4)/6

Total Normal froce on A = 755 N

Total Normal force on B = 1035 N
