what does the 60s part of the ribosome\'s function in yeast. Explain in details
Solution
The 60S part of the ribosome is the large subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome (80S), 40S being the smaller subunit, The ribosome is a large and complex molecular machine that synthesises proteins. Both of the subunits contain dozens of ribosomal proteins arranged on a scaffold composed of ribosomal RNA. The small subunit monitors the complementarity between tRNA anticodon and mRNA and the large subunit catalyzes peptide bond formation. The 60S subunit contains a 28S rRNA, a 5.8S rRNA and a short 5S rRNA. 28S rRNA has multiple insertions to the core rRNA fold of their prokaryotic counterparts, which are called expansion segments. The interior of the 60S subunit reveals a variable diameter tunnel which is the exit site through which the nascent polypeptide chain emerges from the ribosome. There are 42 proteins in the large subunit, and two copies each of two acidic exchangeable proteins.
