Part A
In which bacteria would you find MreB proteins and why?
Mycoplasma pneumoniae, because it is pleomorphic
Neisseria gonorrhea, because it is coccus-shaped
E. coli, because it is rod-shaped.
Staphylococcus aureus, because it is coccus-shaped
Please explain to me why, because the book told me that it creates coccus shape. I need a thorough explaination for your answer.
Solution
c). E. coli, because it is rod-shaped
MreB protein is present in bacteria, which is present as a homologue of actin. It shares the similarities with the tertiary structure and active site of the actin. The MreB protein is not found in coccus shaped bacteria. It is found in rod shaped bacteria such as E.coli. This protein is used to determine the rod shape.
