Calculate the diameter and depth of an inverted circular cone-shaped sedimentation basin for a design flow of 4800 m^3/d based on an overflow rate of 0.00014 m/s and a detention time of 3.5 hr.

Solution

H = v * t = 0.00014 * (3.5*60*60) = 1.764 m

But for cone effective Height will be h/3 =H ( As in Volume formula Surface Arear*h/3)

and Actual height will be h = 3*H

h = 3*1.763 = 5.3 m
