Solution

On a grinding wheel, several small cutting tools are situated throughout the wheel. So, when grinding operation is performed, many such tools come in contact with the surface of the work piece therby increasing the rubbing action which inturn increases heat produced. Whereas in a lathe or milling operation, only one tool or a single point tool comes in contact at a certain instance of time. So, heat produced is relatively high in case of grinding. Due to irregular orientation of abrasive tools on the grinding wheel, the number of tools that come in contact per unit area per unit time are high in grinding process and hence the heat energy per unit area is also high.
