Design and complete a hands-on lab experiment to identify factors that influence the rate of respiration in yeast and to test a factor influencing the rate of respiration by using the materials below:
• bottle – screw-on lid (such as a baby bottle or water bottle)
• clay, modeling
• container or bowl, large (to hold water)
• container, tall narrow (such as a baby bottle or water bottle)
• container, tall narrow
• drill or sharp tool (approximately the same diameter as the tubing)
• Lab Notebook
• marker
• stopwatch or clock with second hand
• sugar (1 teaspoon)
• tablespoon
• tubing, flexible – 24 inches long
• water • yeast (1 teaspoon)
Optional:
• chemicals for adjusting pH (acidic = vinegar / lemon juice, basic = baking soda / sweeteners)
