1. Select the main factors that determine the hydrostatic pressure that concrete exerts on forms.
2. A continuously reinforced concrete pavement is cast next to a bridge. What type of joint is required?
3. Calculate the rate of placement or a shear wall on the 14th floor of a high-rise building. Assume the distance from the ground to the 14th floor is 184 ft. A tower crane using 2 buckets (1 loading while the other is travelling, so that the crane does not have to wait on the bucket to be filled) each with a capacity of 1.5 cu yd has a rate of travel of 90 ft/min up and 120 ft/min down. Assume pickup time is 20 sec and dump time is 5 min. The wall is 14 ft high, 10 in. thick, and 60 ft long.
| A | Rate of placement |
Solution
Solution 1). Rate of placement. A limited pour rate will be provide time for the concrete to begain hardening and thus reduce the height of the fluid concrete, Therefore placing the concrete slowly will result in reduced pressure on the forms and diminish the possibilty of form failure. Solution 2. Expansion joint are provide continously reinforced concrete pavment not provided transverse joint ,but end of structure we provide transverse joint. Solution 3. 8 Rate of Placement is 6.5ft/hr. Height of building =184ft ,crane up velocity =90ft/min ,Crane down velocity =120ft/m, Mean velocity of crane =105ft/m,crane trvell 184+184 distance in 3.5min ,Rate of placing is 6.5ft/hr
