Solution

A) the velocity of the cable C is half the velocity of Elevator = 10 /2

                                                                                         = 5 ft/sec down wards

B) velocity of th counter weight is 10ft/sec downward

C) since the velocity of Elevator and point C are in opposite directions the relative velocity is the sum

                                                                 = 10 ft/ sec + 5 ft/se

                                                                  = 15 ft/ sec

D) simillar to the above the weight and elevator are moving in opposite directions hence the relative velocity is the sum of both

                                          relative velocity of W with respect to E = 10 + 10 = 20 ft/sec
