Steam at 103 psia enters to a steam chest at temperature of 400F. 1. Is there any liquid in the entering steam? Or all the water is in the vapor phase? 2. What is the highest temperature at which any removal of heat from 103psia steam will produce more liquid?
Solution
>> From Steam Table,
At Pressure, P = 103 psia , Saturation Temperature = 330 F which is less than actual temperature , i.e. 400 F
So, steam is in superheated state and thus there will be no water present
>> As, Saturation Temperature, Tsat = 330 F
Now, removing heat from this temperature, more liquid will be produced
