Hello,
I am doing a research, I need an scientific assay for the Lipase enzyme activity.
Please include your reference so I can read more about it.

Solution
Lipases refer to the class of water soluble enzymes that serves to break down fat molecules. They target the ester bonds in the lipids and breakdown them into fatty acids and glycerol. The acitve site of the enzyme has an acid residue, the serine nucleophile and a catalytic triad. The triad has histidine. The enzyme requires Ca2+ ions and colipases as main activators while Sr2+, Mg2+ also serve the purpose. The lipase acitivity is inhibited by orlistat which binds to serine residue in the active site of the enzyme in an irreversible manner. Bile salts, EDTA and PCMB also serve as lipase inhibitor. The lipase aactivity assay is done usinf titrimetric method, colorimetric or immunological methods.
