A 10 sugar solution is separated from a 20 sucrose solution

A 10% sugar solution is separated from a 20% sucrose solution by a selective membrane (sucrose can\'t diffuse through the membrane). Draw an arrow to show which direction will there be a net movement of water. Explain why the water would move in that direction. Objective: Distinguish between passive transport, active transport, and bulk transport of molecules/items into and out of the cells REVIEW: Cooking oil lipids consist of long unsaturated hydrocarbon chains. Would you expect these molecules to form membranes spontaneously? Why or why not? Describe,

Please find the answers below:

Part 2: When two phases are separated by a semi-permeable membrane containing solutions of different concentration, then movement of water takes place from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration till the equilibrium is reached. It can be seen from the image that the inner chamber has lower sucrose concentration whereas outer chamber has higher. This suggests that the outer chamber is hypertonic whereas inner is hypotonic. This clearly suggests that water will move from INSIDE TO OUTSIDE the chamber.

Part 1 : The cooking oil contains polyunsaturated fatty acids but phenomenally, oils are not a part of the plasma membrane. Fatty acids are a part of plasma membrane at different locations and of different nature. Thus, this oil can lead to generation of modified lipids which can be a part of the plasma membrane but cannot directly formulate the plasma membrane.
