Describe the difference between phenotypic and genotypic assays.

Solution

Genotypic and phenotypic assays measure the drug resistance. Genotypic assays are used to detect mutations that cause drug resistance. Whereas the phenotypic assays are drug susceptibility assays in which a fixed inoculum of HIV -1 is cultured in presence of serial dilutions of inhibitory drug.
