You have been asked to prepare a salt solution using 37.5 grams of NaCl and 3 gallons of water, what will the weight percent salt be in the resulting solution? Note that 1 gallon = 3.78 liters. (answer in % NOT INCLUDE THE % SYMBOL IN THE ANSWER). Give your answer to three decimal places as a percent value

Solution

1 gallon of water = 3.78 Litres

So, 3 gallons of water weighs = 3 x 3.78 = 11.34 Litres =11340 ml

Given salt weight = 37.5 grams

So, the weight % of the salt in the solution is

= [Mass of solute (g) / Volume of solution (ml)] x 100?

=(37.5/11340) x 100

==> (w/v)% = 0.33
