Introduction: In this experiment, you will calculate the theoretical time constant T for an RC circuit, and verify the time constant and capacitance experimentally using an oscilloscope and function generator. After one RC time constant has elapsed, it is expected that the voltage on a capacitor will decrease to 36.8% of its initial value. You will also verify the equivalent capacitance when capacitors are in parallel. Pre-lab assignment: Calculate the RC time constant x of the above circuit. Rs is the internal resistance of the function generator in lab, do not include this resistance in your calculation.

Solution

time constant = RC = 2 * 103 * 0.1 * 10-6 = 2 * 10-4
