Suppose the point (8, -1) is on the graph of y = f(x). Find the corresponding point on the following transformations of f.

a) y = 10f(x + 5)

Solution

Given point (8,-1), on the graph y=f(x)

(a) corresponding point of (8,-1) for f(x+5)

x co ordinate will shift left -5 so the point will be (3,-1)

Now again y=-10f(x+5)=-10(-1)=10

Hence the corresponding point of (8,-1) is (3,10)

(b) point corresponding to f(-x) will be (-8,-1)

so, y=f(-x)+2=-1+2=1

Hence the corresponding point of (8,-1) is (-8,1)

(c)The point corresponding of (8,-1) to f(x/2) will be (16,-1)
