Allen is a new student at the University of Wisconsin and wants to try out for the football team. After Allen\'s first week of football practice, he notices that his energy levels are quite low and his muscles are more sore than usual. Allen is concerned that his eating habits are not optimal for football workouts. Allen decides to see a registered dietitian (RD) to get some advice on how to sustain his energy levels through football practice and decrease muscle soreness.

1. Given Allen\'s low energy levels and muscle soreness, what blend of nutrients would you recommend for his diet and why?

1. Balanced diet is necessary for normal healthy living which includes Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals, Water and Dietary fibre.

For sports and other heavy workouts, more energy is required which is provided by glucose, the end product of carbohydrates and fats. Excess of carbohydrates is stored in the form of glycogen in muscles and that is metabolized as and when needed. Then to build more muscles to support providing energy and to repair muscles, protein is required. Vitamins and Minerals are required for various functions of the body and sufficient amount of water can help prevent dehydration.

For the football practice, Allen should take balanced diet.
