1 Find a rational function that satisfies the given conditio

#1 Find a rational function that satisfies the given conditions. Answers may vary.

Vertical Asymptote: x= -3, x= 3 Horizontal Asymptote: y=4

#2 Under what circumstances would a quadratic inequality have a solution set that is closed interval?

Solution

1)

vertical asymptode means slope of tangent is infinity
So denomnator of function should have (x-3)*(x+3) = x^2-9

Horizontal asymptodes means slope of tangent should be 0
f\'(x) should be 0 when y=4

for the function of form ,
f(x) = a*x^n + ..... / (bx^m+ ...)
y=a/b is horizontal asymptodes if n=m

In denominator we habe x^2-9
so, b=1
a must be 4
and n must be 2 as m is 2

So numerator = 4x^2

Answer:
f(x) = 4x^2 / (x^2-9)
