A researcher wanted to investigate factors aecting diesel vehicle emissions. Data was obtained on emissions of particulate matter (PM) for a sample of 138 vehicles driven at low altitude (near sea level) and for a sample of 62 vehicles driven at high altitude (approximately one mile above sea level). All the vehicles were manufactured between 1991 and 1996. The samples containd roughly equal proprotions of high- and low-mileage vehicles. The data, in units of grams of particulates per gallon of fuel consumed (g/gal) can be found in the emissions.csv le.
At high altitude, the barometric pressure is lower, so the eective air/fuel ratio is lower as well. For this reason it was though that PM emissions might be greater at high altitude. We would like to compare the samples to determine whether the data support this assumption.
Compute summary statistics and provide visual summaries to investigate and come up with a pre-liminary conclusion.
