A 12-bit A/D converter has a full-scale range of +5V. What is the resolution of this A/D converter in volts? If this A/D converter were used to measure temperature using a sensor having a static sensitivity of 3 mV/degree C, what would be the resolution in degree C?

12 bit A/D resolution is 2 ¹²         = 4096

So for 5V full scale resolution will be = 5/4096

                                                            = 0.0012 V

So for 3mV/⁰C , the resolution of A/D will be = 0.0012/0.003

                                                                        = 0.4 ⁰ C
