describe the different type of necrosis and identify conditions in which amputation may be necessary?
Solution
Apoptosis and necrosis are the two processes through which cell meets death, which are controlled by numerous cell signals. The premature death of cells is known as necrosis, it is un-programmed cell death. Necrosis is mostly seen during diseased conditions, and it is triggered by the external factors such as infection, trauma, etc.
The different types of necrosis are given below:
1). Coagulative necrosis (occurs during tissue infarction)
2). Liquefactive necrosis (occurs during infections and brain infarcts)
3). Caseous necrosis (seen in tuberculosis)
4). Fat necrosis (occurs during acute pancreatitis)
5). Fibrinoid necrosis (occurs due to immune reactions in vessels)
6). Gangrenous necrosis (occurs when the blood supply is restricted to the entire limb and the tissue dies).
Amputation due to necrosis is suggested if the necrosis is progressing to the surrounding tissues and it is not possible to control the cell death from necrosis. Mostly during the liquefactive necrosis and gangrenous necrosis.
