A) Suppose you are trying the test Hypothesis A. If you have shown that Hypothesis A is true for one case, have you shown that Hypothesis A is correct? Explain your reasoning.

B) If instead you have shown that Hypothesis A is not correct in one case, have you shown the
Hypothesis A is not correct? Explain your reasoning.

C) Write a clear sentence describing what idea you tested in lab, and you found out about that idea.

D) List two strategies about performing scientific investigations that you learned (or were reinforced) in
this weeks lab.

Solution

A) If a hypothesis has been proved true for one case,it does not mean that hypothesis will be true for all the values. In hypothesis testing, we do the test on a considerably large sample in order to make a decision on the overall hypothesis. The sample must be of at least a size of 40 values. Therefore, proving that a hypothesis is true at one value does not ensure that hypothesis is true at all the values.

B) If someone claims that a hypothesis is true and we prove that at any one value the hypothesis is not true then we can say that hypothesis is false. This is same as proving a counter example to a given statement.

In order to answer the parts C and D, we will be needing more information on your lab work.
