In the figure, identify the proteins labeled as:

Explain what is happening in the process labeled as:

X, Y, and Z

Based upon their enzymatic activity, “C” would be classified as a ____

and “D” would be classified as an ______.

Is “C” or “D” a potential tumor suppressor protein (one that protects cells from the cancer path)? Explain.

Z D111+ P 2 Y P C B A

Solution

The process labeled as X is activation, where the complex forms due to presence of enzyme C. The process labeled as Y is dephosphorylation where the phoshorous group is removed from the complex. Z process is feedback inhibition where the concentration of complex formed in process Y results in inhibition of the enzyme D which further stops the process Y.

\'C\' can be classified as transferases, since the enzyme is transfering phospahte group to the complex where as D can be broadly classified as hydrolases which is resposible for removal of phospahte groups by various pathways

C can be p53 protein which is when in phosphorylated form results in formation of p21 protein. this p21 bind with CDK4 and cyclin complex . this results in inhibition of cell cycle helping in DNA repair.
