The length of the rectangle is 4 meters less than 2 times the width. The perimeter is 28 meters. Find the width.

Solution

Let the width of the rectangle be \'x\'. Then length is 2x-4

Perimeter of a rectangle is found by formula P = 2(L+B)

so, P = 28 = 2{(2x-4)+x}

or 28 = 2(2x-4+x) = 2(3x-4)

or 28 = 6x-8 => 6x = 36

which gives upon transpose x = 6

so width of the rectangle is 6 meter.      ANS
