The slope of the line below is 1. Write the point-slope equation for the line using the coordinates of the labeled point.

Solution

Equation of a straight line in Point Slope form is:

y - y1 = m (x - x1),                           (1)

where

m = slope of the line

and (x1, y1) is the point lying on the line.

Given:

m = 1

(x1, y1) = (7,8).

Substituting in (1), we get:

y - 8 = 1 (x-7).

i.e., y - 8 = x - 7

i.e., x - y = -1.

This is the equation of the given line.
