Find the equation of the line perpendicular to the graph of

Find the equation of the line perpendicular to the graph of 5x + 2y = 4 that contains the point (-3,2).

Solution

5x +2y =4

y = -5x/2 +2

slope = -5/2

line perpendicular to the graph of 5x + 2y = 4

slope = -1/ (-5/2) = 2/5

Stand slope intercept equation : y = mx +c

y = 2x/5 +c

plug (-3,2) to find c

2 = 2(-3)/5 +c

c = 2 +6/5 =16/5

y = 2x/5 +16/5 ----> 5y = 2x +16

Find the equation of the line perpendicular to the graph of 5x + 2y = 4 that contains the point (-3,2).Solution5x +2y =4 y = -5x/2 +2 slope = -5/2 line perpendi
