A study by rajendra A. Morey et.al in 2012, shows that the volume of amygdalais diminished in large cohort of military veterans suffering from PTSD. There is an increased activity of amygdala which is related to fear and stress response.

the limbic sturcture includes Amygdala , Cingulate Gyrus, Fornix, Hippocampus, Hypothalamus, Olfactory Cortex, Thalamus and Brain Stem. As amygdala is a part of the limbic structure, the limbic structure undergoes changes too.
