Define a solid model and briefly discuss its role and applic
Solution
Answer 3 a) Solid Model: It is a type of process to represent an object more completely than its wire frame model. In addition to geometrical information it also adds topological information and this helps to represent any solid object more unambigously. Role and applications in modern Mechanical Engineering: CAD is the backbone of modern mechanical engineering. Solid modelling is the most important part of CAD software. By applying solid modelling in CAD, viewers are able to view the design object same as real manufacturing object. It helps to view the object from different plane and direction. This gives confidence to a design engineer as they are able to see the object as they wanted to. It also gives idea to a design engineer about the changes can be made in design as per requirements.
Beside this solid modelling is also used in animation industry to create various characters and medical industry to visualize different tissues of the body, designing of various medical devices etc.
