A 10 m^3 rigid tank contains R-134a at 200 kPa and 20 C. Heat is added to the tank until the pressure reached 240 kPa. How much heat has been added? What is the final temperature of the refrigerant?

Solution

solution :

volume of tank = 10 m3

given refrigerant is r-134a

temperature t1 = 20 c

pressure p1 = 200 kpa

pressure p2 = 240 kpa

now the total heat added to the rigid tank is =

v ( p2 - p1 )

= 10 ( 240 - 200 )

= 10 * 40

= 400 joules

now the final temperature of the regrigerant R-134a is

t2 = t1 * p2 / p1

= 20 * 240 / 200

= 24 c

therefore the heat has been added is 400 joules and the final temperature of the refrigerarnt is 24 c
