01:13:19 Module 3 Test Hide Timer em 1 1 of 1 The I-beam shown is subjected to a moment of 25 kip-ft about the x-axis and a vertical shear force of 10 kips. Determine the maximum flexural stress and shear stress in the beam. Take b-41n and h 10 in Enter answer as (flexural stress, shear stress). 0.25 in ksi, ksi 101 AM 40 7% 3/25/2018
Solution
Moment of inertia of the section=(1/12)*((4*10^3)-(3.75*9^3)) = 105.52 in^4
subjected moment=25 kip-ft =25*12=300 kip-in
Maximum flexure stress = (M/I)*y = (300/105.2) *(10/2) =14.21 kip/in^2
Maximum shear stress =(V/Ib)*[B(D^2-d^2)/8 + b/2*d^2/4] = 2.76kip/in^2
