Solution

1. What is the title of the article? Who is the author? In/on what magazine or website was the article published? Date of publication? (2 pts)
The title of the article is : 25 Fad diets that are total BS.
The autor is Jessica Migala and the article was published on 22nd January, 2016.
The article was published on the website redbookmag.com.
2. Who is the audience? (1 pt)
The target audience of this article would be people who came upon fad diets while researching on information to lose weight quickly. Considering the extremeties of some fad diets, many people looking into the topin would also like to know about the cons of such a diet.
3. What is the main point of the article? Provide a two to three sentence summary. (2 pts)
The article mainly talks about fad diets which are of no use and are not beneficial to health at all. The diets summarized in the article mainly lead to weight loss by hampering the individual\'s health.
4. Does the author provide practical tips and/or applicable, relevant advice? Give examples. (2 pts)
Yes, although the author is focussing on the negative aspects of the fad diets listed, she does share some practical tips. Two such example would be when the author is talking about the supplement diet, where she mentions that plant based diet will give an individual the required nutrients and help lose weight. Another time would be when the author talks about skipping juicer to make juice because it reduces one\'s fibre intake.
5. Is the article biased, or does the author present information in an objective, educational manner? (2 pts)
The article seems biased and against most commonly nown fad diets. However, the author quotes other authors and studies to prove the point. The author also points out in many instances when the claims of a diet have no scientific proof.
6. Do you agree with the author’s points? Why or why not? (1 pt)
I agree with the author\'s points. Many fad diets are for quick weight loss and most are difficult to maintain for a long time. Fad diets do not have any total helth benefits as the weight lost comes back easily when a person reverts back to their original diet. A healthy balanced diet is more important than to deprive the body of required amount of nutrients, fibre and calories.
7. Does this article adequately address the topic at hand, or does it leave you with unanswered questions? Explain.(2 pts)
The article is true to it\'s topic and talks about fad diets that have no scientific backing or are harmful to one\'s body or when they are completely baseless. The author has provided links to the sources she has sited. There are no unanswered questions according to my observation.
8. What sources does the author cite? Are his/her sources reliable? (2 pts)
The author has cited many reliable sources which include articles and research groups and organizations such as:
Celiac Diease foundation
