Three holes are drilled into a steel plate Find the distance

Three holes are drilled into a steel plate. Find the distances A and B shown in the figure. Round to the nearest hundredth of an inch.

Solution

41020\' = 410 + ( 20*1/60)0   ( 1\' = 1/600)

= 410 + (1/3)0 = 124 /3 deg

from fig, perpendicular/base = tan(theta)

A/ (7/2) = tan (124/3)

A = (7/2)* tan(124/3)

A = 3.07 inch

hypotenuse / base = sec (theta)

B / (7/2) = sec(124/3)

B = 4.65 inch
