For working muscles need energy, which they obtain by burning fuels, like fats and carbohydrates by metabolic reactions leading to the production of heat. As the muscles warm up during a workout, the circulating blood is also warmed, leading to a rise in core temperature. Depending upon the amount of work the muscles perform, heat is generated. The more strenuous the workout, the more heat is produced.
