Problem 4: A running track has the sape shown in the figure , with straight side and semicircular ends. If the the length of the track is 440 yards and the two sraight parts are each 110 yard long, what is the radius of the semicircular parts (to the nearest yard)
Solution
Total circumference = 440
Straight parts have length of 110
Two straight parts have length 220
So, the circumference of the two semicircular ends is : 440 - 220 = 220
Two semicircles at the end form a full circle.
So, this can be thought of as :
Circumference of the circle = 220 yards
2pi * r = 220
r = 220/(2pi)
r = 35.0140874802169739
So, radius = 35 yards ---> ANSWE
