Describe the meaning behind the terms \"Fluid\" and \"Mosaic\" in the Fluid Mosaic Model of cell membrane structure: List the 3 things found in all prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells Which organelles are only found in animals? Which organelles are only found in plants? Which organelles are found BOTH plant and animal cells? List the types of cell junctions found in animal tissue vs. those found in plant issue. State three ways that simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion and active transport across a cell membrane differ. (make a table that include up or down gradient, +/-energy need, and +/- carrier need) Name three types of structural fibers that make up the cytoskeleton and their monomers: Describe the Na/K electrochemical pump-what is the actual chemical gradient? What is the actual electrical gradient? Describe two components and one function of the extracellular matrix. Describe at least 3 types of proteins that are found in cell membranes and their FUNCTION. What is the endomembrane system?

Solution

Answer to question Number 1:

The Fluid MosiacModel is a model of cell membrain which is made up of phospolipid bilayer comprising of

-Phospholipid

-Cholesterol and

-Proteins

The fluid part of the model is made up of phospholipids and cholesterol, and is constantly moving around freely in two dimention in the cell membrain.

The mosiac part is made up of integral and peripheral proteins that makes the \"Patchwork\" of proteins in the cell membrain like a mosiac.

Answer to question number 2:

Three things that are found in all prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells besides both being membrane bound are:

-DNA as genetic metarial.

-RNA for protiens translation.

-Ribosomes to read the RNA.

Answer to question number 3:

Organelles found only in animal cells are,

Nucleus,
Endoplasmic reticulum,
Golgi apparatus,
Lysosomes,
Microfilaments,
Microtubules,
Mitochondria,
Peroxisomes,
Plasma membrane and
Ribosomes.
Centrioles,
Cilia and
Flagella.

Answer to question number 4:

Orgenelles found only in plant cells are,

Plastids (i.e, Chloroplasts),
Cell wall and
Vacuole.

Answer to question number 5:

Organelles found in both animal and plants are,

Cell membrane
Nucleus,
Mitochondria,
Golgi apparatus,
Endoplasmic reticulum,
Ribosome.
