For the tank shown in Fig. 6.24, calculate the volume flow rate of water from the nozzle. The tank is sealed with a pressure of 138 kPa above the water. The depth h is 2.5 m.

Solution

Bernaulli\'s eqn for the flow is given by,

P1 + rho*g*h = P2 + 1/2 *rho*V2^2

Solve for \"V\",

V2^2 = 2[(P1 - P2) + rho*g*h]

V2^2 = 2[138 - 1 + (998 * 9.8 * 2.5)]

V2 = sqrt 2[138 - 1 + (998 * 9.8 * 2.5)] = 221.75 m/s

The flow rate is given by,

Q = rho * A2 * V2 = 998 * 3.14 * 0.075^2 * 221.75 = 3908.82 m^3 / s
