Predict the effect of oxygen concentration on the growth of the five different types of microorganism groups (e.g. obligate aerobes, etc. )

Solution

Obligate Aerobic microorganisms require oxygen for their survival as they cannot respire or ferment in absence of oxygen. So their growth can be seen maximum in high concentration if oxygen.

Obligate anaerobic microorganisms are the ones that do not require oxygen to grow, infact they get poisoned if there is high concentration of oxygen.

facultative anaerobic microorganisms can grow in presence and absence of oxygen both as they can respire and ferment both. But as the oxygen concentration rises, they switch to respiration as it yields more energy than fermentation.

Microaerophiles are the microorganisms that require oxygen , they can not survive in low oxygen concentration

Aerotolerant microorganisms survive anaerobically but the high concentration of oxygen will not poison them. So there is no effect of oxygen concentration on them.
