It is a measure of reliability obtained by administrating the same test twice over a period of time to a group of individuals.

It is used to assess the consistency of a measure from one time to another.

This approach assumes that there is no substantial change in the construct being measured between the two occasions.

The amount of time allowed is very crucial. If we measure the same thing twice that the correlation between the two observations will depends in part by how much times elapses between the two measurement occasions.

Ex: A test designed to assess student learning in psychology could be given to a group of students twice, with the second administration perhaps coming a week after the first. The obtained correlation co-efficient would indicate the stability of scores.
