A dog is not a Genetically modified organism (GMO). GMOs are the organisms (i.e. plants, animals or microorganisms) in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. One might have seen different varieties of dog breeds which never existed before, but they are not GMOs. These are actually crossbred dogs- these are dogs created deliberately by crossing two purebred dogs. In such dogs Genetic material is not modified by laboratory methods. These dogs can still produce true breeding pups.
