A manager wants to know if hte man prodcutivity of two workers is the same. For random selection of 30 hours in the past month, he compares the number of itesm produced by each worker in that hour.

Should the data be treated as independent or paired samples, why?

The data should be treated in paired samples.

In paired samples design,the units in one data set are directly related to specific observation in the other set.Thus the two samples are dependent.In this case also,the man productivity of the two workers is dependent.Moreover independent samples are used when we compare information of 2 different sets.
