Show that the unit of capacitance multiplied by the unit of resistance gives the unit of time.

Solution

Unit of capacitance = Farad = coulomb/volt

Unit of resistance =ohm = volt / ampere

Capacitance x resistance = Farad x ohm

                                     = ( coulomb/volt ) (volt /ampere)

                                     = coulomb /ampere

                                     = coulomb /( coulomb/sec)       Since current = charge / time

                                                                                       So, ampere = coulomb / sec

                                    = sec
