Consider a satellite link with capacity of 1 Mbps, bit error rate 10-8, and propagation delay of 270 msec. Assuming selective reject ARQ with a window of 64 and 10,000 bit frames, calculate the link utilization.

Solution

Frame Time = 10^-8 * 10000 = 10 ^-3 = 1 ms

Propogation Delay = 270 ms

Window 64 utilization = 64/(270+64) = 19.16%
