I cannot figure out how to even plug this into the calculator? If you could explain how to do this ( change tha base to 17 instead of 10) with a scientific calculator.

Solution

log₁₇ 100 = (log₁₀ 100) / (log₁₀ 17) since log_b a = (log_c a)/(log_c b)

==> (log₁₀ 10²) / (log₁₀ 17)

==> 2 (log₁₀ 10) / (log₁₀ 17)       since log a^b = b log a

==> 2 (1) / (log₁₀ 17)          since log_b b = 1

==> 2/ (log₁₀ 17)         

==> 2/1.23045

==> 1.6254

Hence log₁₇ 100 = 1.6254
