Pin diode can be used as high voltage rectifier the intrinsic region provides a greater separation between pn and n region, allowing higher voltages to be tolerated. It makes an ideal RF switch. In pulse width modulation the width of the pulse changes in the modulation so it doesnot supports high voltages if the voltage increases their may be chance to increase in pulse in the modulation.Hence it can be used for pwm power converters.
