Emotional intelligence helps a person better understand other people and better navigate the social environment.

So high emotional intelligence translates to better mental strength as a person is able to manage, understand and use his emotions as well as emotion of those around him in a better way. This creates a positive work environment. For example you are a branch manager of a bank and have high emotional intelligence. You can sense when a sales manager is under stress. In this case you ease his load for a while. This helps in creating a positive work atmosphere.
