a)     Sum moments about A to zero with counter clockwise moments as positive.

Fy = 7636 / 3.4
Fy = 2245.88 lbs

Recognizing that the strut lengths make a ABD triangle with BD being length 4.2

Fbd = 2245.88 / (2.4/4.2)
Fbd = 3930.29 lb

b)    Summing moments about A and recognizing that the perpendicular distance from point A to BD is 2.4/4.2 a hypotenuse length of 3. 4 inc

830(5.8 + 3.4) - Fbd(3.4(2.4/4.2)) = 0
Fbd = 7636 / (8.16/4.2)
Fbd = = 3930.29 lb
