Define temporal summation
Solution
Summation is the process of determining whether action potential will be triggered by excitatory signals and inhibitory signals.
Summation involves 2 types : spatial and temporal.
Temporal summation: when action potential of high frequency in presynaptic neuron draw out postsynaptic potential which summate with it. In this case postsynaptic duration is long and in case where time constant is long for call also then summation amount is enhanced. This in turn will result in generation of larger potential than the individual potentials. Thus membrane potential reaches a certain threshold and action potential is generated.
