If a weight of 8 kg is placed 10 m from the fulcrum of a lever and a weight of 12 kg is placed 8 m from the fulcrum in the opposite direction, toward which weight will the lever incline?
Solution
The weight with larger moment arm will win ie the lever will incline in direction of weight with larger moment arm
8 kg mass has moment arm =10*8=80 kg.m
12 kg mass has moment arm =12*8=96 kg.m
So lever will incline towards 12 kg weight.
