An electroplating process will be used to coat the exterior

An electroplating process will be used to coat the exterior surface of a 170 mm diameter x 1.3 meter long cylinder with silver. Determine the time in minutes to electroplate silver to a thickness of 0.09 mm if the plating current is 35 amps. time =

Solution

Electrostatic Equivalent of silver = 4.024   g / Amp - hr

Volume of silver to be deposited = pi * (17.009^2 - 17.^2) * 130 / 4   = 31.2514 cm^3

Density of silver = 10.49 g/cm^3

weight of silver   = 10.49 * 31.2514   = 327.8273 g

time in hours   = 327.8273 / (4.024 * 35)    = 2.3276 hours
