Ratio and Proporation: Awater pipe can fill a 250 litre tank in 2 hours 30 minutes .In how much time will it fill 9 / 10 of the tank ?

Solution

This is a problem on ratio and proportion.

Time taken by the water pipe to fill up the water tank fully= 2hr 30 mts = 2.5 hours (given)

Time taken to fill up (/10) of the water tank is to be found.

Full : (9/10) = 2.5 hrs : ?(=x say). Take full = 10/10 = 1

1*x= (9/10)(2.5) hrs

Therefore , time taken by thewater pipe to fill 9/10 of the water tank = (9/10) of the time taken by that water pipe to fill up the water tank fully =(9/10)(2.5) hrs

=22.5/10=2.25hrs

= 2hr 15 mts.
